When starting your search for the perfect pool, knowing what size pool you want is a great place to start. There are three main shapes for pools: Round, Oval & Rectangle. One shape isn't better than another. It mainly comes down to personal preference, what size fits best in your yard, and what your city/town's codes are. Codes for most cities are very similar. Most are going to look at the distance from your property line, electrical lines (both underground and overhead), and the height of your pool for potential fencing requirements. (If you are unsure of your underground electrical lines, give Diggers Hotline a call if you are in Wisconsin or JULIE if you are in Illionis.)
The best way to figure out exactly what size would work best is to grab a tape measure and some yard flags or stakes. You could also use paint, but if you want to measure out different sizes, the flags or stakes would be your best option. Measure out all the sizes you may be interested in and stand in the pool, stand outside of it, walk around it, even lay in it to get that relaxing effect. (Fruity drink with an umbrella is optional) This is a great way to get a true feel for how that size or shape pool would fit your back yard.
